Land transfer duty discounts
To make it easier for first home buyers to buy a property, they can access land transfer (stamp) duty exemptions and concessions.
First home buyers don’t pay any land transfer duty if they purchase a property valued at $600,000 or less, and they receive a concession if they buy a property valued between $600,001 and $750,000.
In 2024–25:
- 27,439 first home buyers purchased properties for $600,000 or less and paid no land transfer duty at all.
- 14,769 first home buyers purchased properties between $600,001 and $750,000 and received a concession on land transfer duty.
- The total value of these 42,208 land transfer duty discounts was $825.6 million.
First Home Owner Grant
The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) continues to help Victorians buy or build their first home.
First home owners who buy or build a new home valued at $750,000 or less may be eligible for the grant of $10,000.
In 2024–25, we paid 9,199 FHOG applications worth a total of $92.3 million.
